How to prepare for an operations analytics assessment

A short checklist so discovery weeks stay focused on reporting gaps instead of hunting for files.

An assessment of application analytics for infrastructure operations goes faster when sample reports and owner names are ready before the first interview. Collect the last four weekly packs, the last two monthly packs, and a list of who currently produces each.

Note which applications feed those packs — even if extracts are manual. If someone emails a CSV every Friday, that is part of the analytics chain and belongs in the inventory.

Identify one operations lead who can speak for day-to-day decisions and one application owner who can explain field definitions. Without both voices, gap analysis tends to favor either the floor or the system and miss the handoff between them.

You do not need perfect documentation on day one. You need honest examples of what is produced today, including the messy ones. Those reveal where reporting time is spent and where clarity breaks down.
